1. How do I get a library card and borrow books?

Library cards are available to anyone over the age of 5. Those who submit a library card application or the parent or guardian of a minor submitting an application must present picture ID and proof of current address. Applications are available in the Library, or you can fill one out online  and it will be ready when you next come to the library. Just remember to bring a picture ID and proof of address. LLML is part of the Cooperative Information Network. We accept CIN cards from the libraries listed here. A library card or picture ID may be presented to borrow items. Digital library cards on mobile devices using the “Library Now” app or rewards card apps (Key Ring, eChain, etc.) are also accepted. Replacement cards may be purchased for $1.00. Most items are loaned for 4 weeks. High demand items are loaned for 2 weeks. Movies, music, and magazines are loaned for 1 week. Items may be renewed if no other patron has requested them. Loan periods for items from CIN libraries may vary.

2. What is my password and how can I change it?

A password is required to access your account online, request and renew items, use downloadable collections, and sign into research databases from home. By default, your password is your last name in ALL CAPS. You have the option to sign into your account and change your password to something more secure.

Go to the CIN catalog and sign in with your library card number and default password. Click the “change my password” tab on the left, fill out the boxes, and click “Submit changes.”

If you forget your password, library staff can reset it to the default, then you can follow the above steps to change it to something else. Sign into your account and change your password.

3. How do I update my contact information and manage my account?

Go to the CIN catalog and sign in with your library card number and password. Your default password is your last name in ALL CAPS.

Click on the “my personal details” tab to update your name, address, or other contact information. This will notify staff of the changes, which they will ask you to verify next time you come into the library.

To change your password, click the “change my password” tab on the left, fill out the boxes, and click “Submit changes.”

If you forget your password, library staff can reset it to the default, then you can follow the above steps to change it to something else.

While signed into your account, you can also see what items you have on hold or checked out and when they’re due, renew them, manage your privacy settings (this directs the system to keep a reading history or not; it is never available to library staff), make purchase suggestions, and manage your lists. Sign into your account to update and manage it.

4. How do I hold items?

Liberty Lake Municipal Library belongs to the Cooperative Information Network. You may request items from LLML or other libraries for pick up in Liberty Lake by going to the CIN catalog, signing into your account with your library card number and Password/PIN (default password is last name in ALL CAPS), searching for the item you want to hold, and clicking “place hold”.

Confirm the hold details, including pick up location and the date after which you no longer want the hold (if applicable).

You will be notified by email or phone once the item is ready for pick up. Items are held for 5 business days.

You may also call the Library at 509-232-2510 for help placing a hold. Please have your library card number ready. Go to the CIN catalog to hold items.

5. How do I renew items?

Go to the CIN catalog and sign in with your library card number and password. Your default password is your last name in ALL CAPS. Your account will display all the items you have out. Items are allowed two renewals unless requested by another patron or part of our Most Wanted Browsing collection. Items available to renew will have a box to check in a column marked “Renew.” Check the box next to any items you want to renew and click the “Renew selected” box. The new due date will display in the “Due” column. You may also request a renewal in person or by phone by calling 509-232-2510.

6. How do I return items?

Items may be returned to the Returns/Information Desk or the inside book drop. Please be careful returning media, magazines, and fragile items to avoid damage. The Library also has an overnight book drop for returns when the Library is closed. All materials may be returned to this book drop. Items returned when the Library is closed will be checked in on the next day the Library is open and backdated to the last open day. Liberty Lake Municipal Library belongs to the Cooperative Information Network. Items borrowed from any CIN library may be returned to any other CIN library. The Library no longer charges overdue fines but damaged or lost materials are charged the replacement cost. Contact Circulation at 509-435-0778 for information about fees. You can receive an email notification when an item is checked in and cleared from your account by going to the CIN catalog and signing in with your library card number and Password/PIN (default password is last name in ALL CAPS). Select the “my messaging” tab, check the box next to the notifications you would like to receive, and click “Submit Changes.”

7. How do I get a book from another library or suggest a book to purchase?

You may request items from libraries within the Cooperative Information Network using our online catalog or over the phone at 509-232-2510. You will need your library card number and password/PIN (default password is last name in ALL CAPS).

If the item you want is not owned or lent by a library in CIN, you can make a request for the library to purchase the item by logging in to your library account and selecting the “my purchase suggestions” tab. See the Collection Policy for the criteria the Library uses to select materials.

You will be notified by email on the Library’s purchasing decision. If the Library does decide to purchase the item you request you will be placed on the hold list for it and notified when it is available.

8. How do I download eBooks, audiobooks, music, or magazines?

Liberty Lake residents with an active CIN card (numbers beginning with “10”) have access to thousands of downloadable eBooks, audiobooks, songs, and magazines. Visit our Digital Downloads page to access the virtual collection, anytime, anywhere!

9. How do I find out what programs are going on at the Library?

Visit our homepage, Facebook, or view the current newsletter for a list of programs including story times and book clubs. Go to the Library Calendar for program dates and times and to see what special events are coming up.

10. How do I use computer, Internet, or media services?

The Library has a number of computer stations for the public to access the Internet, use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), search for jobs online, etc. Jobs and Career Center Computers have resume software and other employment resources. Computer passes may be signed out at the Circulation desk. Minors must have parental permission to use computers. Go to our Computer Services page for details. The Library has free wi-fi throughout the building for connecting with your personal device. The Library has a printer and copier/scanner for public use. Black and white printing/copying is 10 cents a page, color is 50 cents a page, payable at the Circulation desk. The Library does not have faxing services. The closest public faxing offered is at the UPS Store on Liberty Lake Road.

11. How do I get research help?

Library staff are available to help you find information in print, online, and with our reference databases. We can help you research a product, find sources for a report or school project, access business, medical, and legal information, or find a good book to read. 

For more in-depth help, arrange a personalized, face-to-face session with a library professional with our Book-a-Librarian service. The Book-a-Librarian sessions are tailored to meet the specific needs of the individual. A library staff member will give undivided attention to customers who want help with a research project or to discover new books and authors that match your taste and interests.

13. How do I reserve a room for a meeting or presentation?

The Library has a Meeting Room open to the public for presentations, programs, and events that can be reserved by submitting an application. Find more information on our Meeting Room page.

14. How do I exhibit my art in the Library?

The Library provides exhibit space free to the public scheduled by application. Find more information on our Artists Exhibit page.

15. How do I volunteer at the Library?

Regular volunteer assignments based on current Library needs are available to individuals 14 years and older who submit an application and pass a background check. Students under 14 fulfilling community service requirements for school will be accepted as volunteers on a case-by-case basis. 16. How do I donate to the Library?

The Library accepts books and audiovisual items in new or very good condition to add to the collection or for the Friends of the Library to sell to support Library programs and resources. We generally accept items published within the last 5 to 10 years depending on condition. The following items are not accepted: Dictionaries, encyclopedias, reference books, textbooks, Reader’s Digest, or books in poor or unusable condition and out-of-date media formats (cassettes, VHS tapes.) The Library can accept monetary and in kind donations as long as they meet the needs and standards of the Library. See our Donations policy. 17. How do I get a job at the Library?

Open positions at the Library are posted to the Job Opportunities page. Applications, application instructions, and other open City positions are available at the City jobs page. The Library also posts positions to relevant professional sites like PNLA.org and to print and online employment sources like the Spokesman-Review and Worksource Spokane.
