What is it?

Interlibrary loan (ILL) is a service through which patrons can request items that are not owned by any of the libraries in the InlandShare Library Group. You may request up to five interlibrary loans at a time.

You may make a request by filling out this form or by calling the library at 509-232-2510.

Who can place a request?

Any LLML patron with a resident library card in good standing and ILG members in good standing who list LLML as their home library may use ILL at the Liberty Lake Municipal Library.

What items are available?

  • Items that are NOT found in the ILG catalog. Please check the ILG catalog before submitting a request.
  • Items that were published or released more than a year ago
  • Books, audiobooks, DVDs, and CDs
  • Photocopies of journal or magazine articles
  • Microfilm or microfiche

What items are not available?

  • Items that were published or released within the last year
  • eBooks or downloadables
  • Items that are in a library’s reference collection
  • Certain genealogy materials
  • A patron may only request the same item twice in a calendar year.

How do I request an item that was published or released in the last year?

Sign in to your account and select "materials requests" from the menu. Your purchase suggestion will go directly to one of our librarians for consideration. You will be notified of the decision the library makes on your purchase suggestion. If your purchase suggestion is approved, the item will be placed on hold on your account, and you will receive a notification when it becomes available for checkout.

What does it cost?

There is no cost for most items. Some universities and out-of-state libraries charge a lending fee. There is usually a small fee for photocopies of journal or magazine articles. We will not borrow an item with fees attached without your approval.

How long does it take?

The time varies, but interlibrary loan requests take an average of ten working days to arrive.

How long can I keep an interlibrary loan?

The checkout period is determined by the lending library, which varies from two to six weeks. In most cases, renewals are not possible.

Where do I pick it up?

You will receive an email or telephone call notifying you when the item is available to check out at the Liberty Lake Municipal Library. The item will be at the checkout desk. You will have five business days to pick up the item before it is returned to the loaning library. Items can be returned in one of our drop boxes.
