[ARCHIVED] See the city's priorities for Washington's 2024 state legislative session

The Liberty Lake City Council has adopted a slate of legislative priorities that center on the proposals and general requests that will be advocated by city leaders when lawmakers gather in Olympia during the first months of 2024.  The City Council members approved the list of the 2024 legislative priorities during their regular meeting on Dec. 5, endorsing their support for new or continued funding of programs in areas that cover public safety and well-being, economic vitality and opportunity, and planned growth and infrastructure.

The city's 2024 legislative priorities are:

Public Safety & Well-Being:

  • Bolstering cities' ability to recruit and retain law enforcement officers
  • Providing additional funding for local alternative response programs
  •  Helping to curb organized retail theft
  • Protecting privacy and reducing costs associated with body-worn and dash cameras
  • Creating greater access to behavioral health services

Economic Vitality & Opportunity:

  • Expanding access to affordable, quality childcare
  • Reforming Washington's low carbon fuel standard and carbon tax
  • Addressing the disconnect between environmental regulations, building code requirements, and housing affordability
  • Completion of the HUB outdoor field project in Liberty Lake
  • Land purchase and construction of an Army National Guard Readiness Center in Liberty Lake
  • Completion of the Idaho Contral Performing Arts Center in Spokane Valley

Planned Growth & Infrastructure:

  • Prioritizing infrastructure preservation funding
  • Amending the Growth Management Act to give cities more opportunities to participate in updates and flexibility in implementing its provisions
  • Construction of a third lane on I-90 from Barker to the state line
  • City of Spokane Valley's funding request for the South Barker Road Corridor Project
