Liberty Lake Police Chief Damon Simmons has been elected treasurer of the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs for a three-year term that will start in 2024.  The officers of the 14-member executive board were named at the organization's general business meeting in May.

"These are some of the top law enforcement leaders in Washington and we are grateful they have stepped up to provide direction for our statewide organization," said Steve Strachan, WASPC's executive director.  "They will shape the policies for all law enforcement across the state and guide the best practices that make public safety better for every community.

The WASPC was founded in 1963 and consists of executive and top management personnel from law enforcement agencies statewide.  The organization involves more than 900 members, including all 39 county sheriffs, 240 police chiefs, as well as representatives from the Washington State Patrol, the Washington Department of Corrections, and tribal and federal agencies.  The group provides specific materials and services to all law enforcement agencies in the state among its members as well as non-members.  It is the only association of its kind in the nation that combines representatives from local, state, tribal, and federal law enforcement into a single body that works together for common goals.

Chief Simmons is currently serving in his first term with the WASPC's executive board.  As treasurer, he will be the oversight officer for receipt and collection of funds paid to the association, and will oversee payments of the group's expenditures, as well as provide financial reports during the association's meetings.

"WASPC plays a vital role in collaboration between law enforcement executives in the state of Washington," said Simmons.  "This collaboration is essential in providing public safety for the citizens of the state of Washington. I am excited to serve in the capacity of treasurer for such a fine organization."
