[ARCHIVED] Oct. 9-15 is Fire Prevention Week in Liberty Lake

Liberty Lake City Council with representatives of Spokane Valley Fire Department

"Fire won't wait.  Plan your escape."  That's the theme of Fire Prevention Week for 2022.  And, on Oct. 4, the Liberty Lake City Council authorized a mayor's proclamation declaring Oct. 9-15, 2022, as Fire Prevention Week throughout the city of Liberty Lake.

The proclamation notes that:

  • Fire departments in the U.S. responded to 356,500 home fires during 2020;
  • Working smoke alarms cut the risk of dying in reported home fires by half; and
  • Residents who have planned and practiced a home fire escape plan become more prepared and more likely to survive a fire.

Above the signature of Mayor Cris Kaminskas, the proclamation concludes:  "I urge all the people of Liberty Lake to plan and practice a home fire escape for Fire Prevention Week 2022, and to support the many public safety activities and efforts of the Spokane Valley Fire Department, serving the residents of Liberty Lake."
